Many of the companies and organizations that I work with set up a website one or two years ago and while they may have changed a few things over the years, they have not really thought about their website as anything other than a brochure.
If this sounds like you…fear not… you are not alone and it really isn’t a huge leap to create and maintain a valuable online presence.
Really the big change has to come in your HEAD first. I find that when people stop thinking about their WEBSITE…and start thinking about their WEB PRESENCE…then good things can happen.
I am currently working with several companies that created a website with lots of descriptive paragraphs…lots of really good writing about what their company does…who they have worked with…why you should hire them…etc etc etc. This stuff all seems very logical to do. If you have a website, you should describe what you do…right?
While I do think that is true…it is HOW you do it and WHEN and WHERE you do it that is key to your creating an effective online presence. Remember…Google has broken your marketing up into little tiny pieces.
Building an effective and valuable online presence is about inhabiting several web pages that address the different audiences you are trying to engage with.
Try considering setting up a website / blog / LinkedIN profile / Squidoo Lens / posting on a few appropriate forums / join an online NING community (see my Digital Coaching Support Group) / setting up a separate web page for your best clients / setting up a totally separate web page for your worst clients / … anything else? That is just a start.
Now… once you have that stuff created…now what?
My approach is to NOT set that stuff up unless you are really ready and committed to living and working online. You CAN do things you didn’t think you could do with your company online…I will introduce some of these things in this Blog.
